Sinhala New Year Festival 2010

Indiana Buddhist Temple in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA celebrated this year's Sinhala and Hindu New Year on Saturday the 17th of April at the temple premises.

About 200 devotees from Indiana and neighboring states attended the celebration and participated in the Avurudu activities.

The New Year festivities began with the Buddha Pooja at 10:30 a.m. followed by the traditional ritual of anointing oil by Ven. Talangama Devananda Thero and Ven. Neluwe Seelawimala Thero.

After offering Dana to the Maha Sangha, all the kids big and small gathered peacefully to recite the stanzas to worship their beloved parents offering Betel leaves according to the Avurudu tradition. Avurudu games in the afternoon included a friendly cricket match

There was also a silent auction in order to raise money for the maintenance of the temple.
